BETTY FIELD MEMORIAL YOUTH WRITING CONTEST
Attention teachers!

It’s time for your students to win the Betty Field Memorial Youth Writing Contest and garner top honors plus cash prizes!

The Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District annual Betty Field Memorial Youth Writing Contest is an excellent way to encourage your students to use plot, strong characters, description and story theme to develop their creative writing skills.  The competition is open to all students in the El Paso County region and/or in the Pikes Peak Library District, in grades six through twelve, public, private or home schools.  Remember, the winners receive cash prizes and will be honred at the Friends Annual Luncheon on April 14, 2007, at the Antlers Hilton.

The story must be a mystery story, but it doesn’t have to be a detective who-done-it.  Students are encouraged to write any kind of mystery: romantic, historical, humorous, realistic, etc.  The contest genre centers around a “mystery” because Betty Field, the contest’s namesake, loved mysteries.  This year’s contest is graciously funded by her husband, Ken Field, and is co-sponsored by the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration.

Entries must be postmarked no later than February 7, 2005.
