Imagination Celebration’s iSpace at The Citadel will be invaded on Saturday morning, January 12, 2013 when retro recycle artist Gary Alan Weston holds a fun-filled workshop on the art of robot making. The two hour workshop, from 10:00 am to 12 noon, will teach you the essential skills for making cosmic art out of recycled and re-purposed materials. Although the emphasis will be on robot building, the workshop information will help you to create a wide variety of art that will be one-of-a-kind conversation pieces.
The Robots Are Coming! workshop will include a short presentation on how to conjure up design ideas so you can get started with your creation, where to find unique materials and construction and painting tips. Gary Alan Weston, who has exhibited his science fiction-based art works throughout the region, will also address solving some of the problems you can encounter in the use of recycled materials and the ways in which you can incorporate lights and sound into your works.
After the introductory presentation, the remainder of the session will be dedicated to hands-on activity as workshop participants begin to create. Though iSpace has a limited supply of recycled materials to use, workshop participants are encouraged to bring along any particular canisters or “junk’ that they might incorporate into their piece. Your robot can be of any shape and size, it’s just up to your imagination.
The registration and materials fee for The Robots are Coming! workshop is only $20.00 for the two hour session and is open to all ages. This could be a fun and interesting family engagement, with family members each creating their own personal robot or sculpture. Registration is now available online at http://tinyurl.com/RobotsAreComing or at iSpace at The Citadel. Space is limited for this workshop so it is recommended to register soon.
