Summer Flutter 2012

IMAGINATION CELEBRATION’S
“SUMMER FLUTTER”
A Butterfly Fest

— Free One Day Event – Saturday, June 2 at The Citadel —

Summer Flutter: A Butterfly Fest featuring butterflies large and small. The focal point for this butterfly bash will be Imagination Space at The Citadel, but there will be activities and things to do and see both inside and outside the mall facility.

Activities at Summer Flutter will include: hands-on butterfly mask making, creative butterfly design, and other butterfly-related crafts. Tables for these hands-on activities will be located at Imagination Space, as well as The Citadel’s Center Court near the escalators and the Food Court. Face painting of exotic butterfly designs, butterfly balloon-making and the flying of various butterfly kites will brighten the day. The Citadel’s northeast parking lot will be the location for the mall’s annual Farmer’s Market, which will have its seasonal opening day at Summer Flutter. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will be along for the fun with live specimens and information on butterflies and other friendly summer bugs.

Chalk art teams will also be converging on the sidewalks around The Citadel, each vying to create the best butterfly art in the chalk medium. Once completed, these colorful chalk drawings will be on display throughout the day.

A highlight for Summer Flutter is seeing this year’s 31 “Butterflies & Friends” sculptures collected in a single location (Imagination Space) before they are dispersed to various locales in the region. These giant butterfly sculptures created by regional artists, are displayed for public viewing and then auctioned for charity. “Butterflies & Friends” is an on-going project of the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs. Imagination Space is the collection point and first viewing opportunity for these spectacular sculptures.  See them now before they migrate out across the community!
